![]() ![]() ![]() The assistant checked my paperwork and briefly asked if I wanted to upgrade to a convertible or take out the additional insurance, I declined as convertibles are not practical for a road trip (limited boot space) and I had taken out additional insurance before leaving the UK with an independent insurance company to cover me for all and any costs that Alamo didn't cover me for. Having been to the States many times before we are aware that, some rental companies can put a lot of pressure on you to upgrade or take out extra insurance and for this reason I had intended to use the kiosks to avoid any hassle but when I arrived at the Alamo office about 2.30 in the afternoon there was no one waiting so I just went to the desk. My wife and I rented a full size car from Alamo at Sanford Airport in Florida for our two week holiday from 1st June to 15th June 2018. They appeared to cope better when 3 or 4 planes were preparing to leave, recently we are the only plane. The airport appears to be having an upgrade so perhaps the poor facilities etc are temporary. We were happier in a quiet area in the main waiting area. It wasn’t easy to find a relaxing, quiet area and a huge TV was blaring away with motor racing, perhaps one person was interested. Guests are allowed a max of 2 drinks, only crisps and biscuits are included. The Duty Free area is badly stocked and staff are not particularly friendly or competent. We have seen many changes, most recently emptying carry on bags of chocolate and snacks is an additional inconvenience. Checking in is usually stress free but the security area is way too small, too crowded and the pace travellers are expected to move is not comfortable. Staff inside are friendly but the unnecessary staff outside who show you to your vehicle can be surly, and pressurise you into choosing a car they want you to have, obviously looking for a tip. Picking up a hire car from Alamo is easy, efficient and very quick. The airport allows us to achieve these aims extremely efficiently and we are very grateful. Our main aim is to arrive safely, quickly and get out onto the road as speedily as possible. We have used Sanford for many years including a 3 day extension due to Hurricane Charley. ![]()
